Diana Ross was perhaps the first true superstar of black music, excelling in every aspect of her career in the '60s and '70s: as a member of the Supremes, as a solo artist, and even as an actress. Passionate about fashion from a young age, she wanted to become a designer. However, in the late '50s, she was noticed by the producer of the Temptations, who introduced her to Motown, the famous record label from Detroit. In 1960, she became the lead singer of the Supremes, one of the most famous bands of that era, rivaling the Beatles in terms of popularity. Ross is the only female singer to have two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one as a member of the Supremes, the other as a solo artist. In the '70s, Diana portrayed another legendary woman of American music: Billie Holiday. Her performance in 'Lady Sings the Blues' earned her an Oscar nomination.
