Who was Marilyn? A beautiful blonde doll? A formidable commercial product launched by Hollywood cinema? Or perhaps a girl with a difficult past, made even more fragile by disproportionate fame and the abuse of psychotropic drugs...
Without a doubt, her face has become a mass icon, as is evident from Andy Warhol's silkscreen prints.
In my series of portraits dedicated to her, I create an emotional and alternative reinterpretation of the actress's contradictions and identity transformations, in a progressive search to escape from the crystallized mask of preconceptions that we are all called to fight every day in contemporary society.
From the study of iconic images of Marilyn the enchanting blonde, I move on to the other side of her interior life, which emerges from her personal collection of books by philosophers and playwrights and in the self-production of films that reflect on the social malaise of American society.
Dissatisfaction with a life that doesn’t feel like our own, the confrontation with the changes we are all subject to, are the themes of Marilyn’s latest work, whose search for answers is surprisingly valid for us too.
